any news update on the road condition from Republic to Kettle Falls - has it been repaved yet?

A friend was on it about 2 weeks ago and said it was a gravel like material - quite loose.

Wow, it's truly a fantastic ride but, yeah, you're up at around 5,500, at least at one of the passes, and you will be riding past vast fields of snow for a long stretch of the ride that early in the season. It'll be, er, bracing. Have 20 layers and use mittens w/ chemical warmers, but it'll be incredibly beautiful if you can catch some sun. -)

I'll be in Tacoma on business soon and have a free weekend on May 2nd & 3rd. I'm thinking about renting a bike and running WA 20 over to Colville. So here's my question: Will I freeze to death the first weekend of May, or do I have a shot at making the ride?
