Lower Nehalem Road / Foss RoadThis road follows the Nehalem River out through the Cascade Range out to Nehalem Bay near Manzanita. While I’ve never had an opportunity to ride this road myself, I’ve been told there are significant sections of the roadway that are not merely unpaved but are dirt 2-track trails. Note: This road is known as Foss Road at the western junction where it meets US101.

Heading NE on Foss Rd (from the intersection of Miami Foley Rd) the yellow-lined pavement ends 6.6 miles in.
Heading S on Lower Nehalem Rd (from the intersection of RT 26) the yellow-lined pavement ends 2 miles in.
I’ll leave what’s in between to someone with a dual-sport to report on.

Personally this is one of my favorite roads. Yes, it is a dual sport road (I have a Honda XR650L). The bridge is out about half way along the road and there is NO way across. You need to do the road from both sides. If you are a camper, there are excellent camp sites along the road. My recommendation is to use Google Maps and do a virtual ride (drop the little man on the road and move him along). The Google photo car made it through before the bridge washed out. I have found many rides using Google Maps this way.
