Had a chance trip to Clarkston with the family. So I put the bike on a trailer, there were a couple road I had my eye on. Rattle Snake Grade being one of them. Boggan’s Oasis and back was I think only 70 miles. But you get Rattle Snake up and down :).
Just a couple shots.

Palouse Falls to Spiral Hwy to Rattlesnake Grade ... Sept 25th, 2010

2003 M620ie-dark & 2002 ST4s ... what a weekend, what a ride! A first for both my son (18) and I (60). We camped in the woods south of Enterprise then back west to Bonney Lake, WA over 410.

This is a great road to take going to or coming from Lewiston . I have stayed at the Ponderosa several times , the last time they looked very full but but offered a nice ground level room and dinner advice.

As the author states, there are long dry straights at both ends of this ride, but the gem in the center makes the ride completely worth the trip. Also the view of Lewiston from the plateau rim on the north end is remarkable. The Old Spiral Hwy on the north side of Lewiston is a must!

The Ponderosa Hotel in Enterprise seems biker unfriendly. We are are four clean, middle aged professionals and were turned away though the parking lot was (maybe) a 1/3 full at 8pm. The attendant claimed there were no vacancies. We were tempted to watch the office from a distance, but it was the end of a long day and what would be the point?

The DOT has been repaving this section from the plateu to the Grand rhonde and there are large patches of loose blacktop! Very trecherous in the afternoon as the trees cast a shadow over the road and it is impossible to see where the road is loose and not!

There's gas available in Enterprise, and Boggan's Oasis (cafe) is located at Rhonde River Canyon. When northbound btw Enterprise and Clarkston, there's more uphill than downhill twisties. The reverse applies when southbound. Then there's NF-39 btw Joseph and Oxbow.
